Democratic Commons is a Make.org initiative in collaboration with Sciences Po, and Sorbonne-CNRS which will bring together over 50 researchers and engineers for a two-year period. Its goal is to develop and disseminate an open-source conceptual framework for applying democratic principles to the use of AI, along with a model for assessing biases in large language models (LLMs), corrected unbiased LLMs and citizen participation platforms that adhere to these principles. This interdisciplinary effort combines advanced expertise in data science with a deep understanding of social sciences, supported by five globally renowned partners: Hugging Face, Aspen Institute, Mozilla.ai, Project Liberty Institute, and Genci. To ensure the quality and relevance of its findings, a Supervisory Scientific Council has been established, featuring international luminaries such as Yochai Benkler (Berkman Klein Center), Hélène Landemore (Yale), Karine Perset (OECD.ai), Asma Mhalla (EHESS/CNRS - Columbia), Raja Chatila (Sorbonne-Université), Michelle Barsa (Omidyar Network), and Djame Seddah (Inria).
