Co-edited by JEF Europe and Make.org, EurHope is the most ambitious campaign to engage European youth before the 2024 EU Elections. It has gathered more than 1.5 million votes and over 5.000 proposals during the consultation process, was supported by a coalition of more than 50 partners and led to more than a hundred events organised all over Europe.
One year after the EurHope launch at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, this final event at the EESC marked the culmination of a year of activation and campaigning, both online and offline, amplifying the voices of young people throughout Europe. It serves as a poignant reminder of the crucial need for policymakers to acknowledge and consider youth priorities.
The event was kicked off by opening remarks by Oliver Röpke, President of the EESC, Christelle Savall, President of JEF Europe, and Axel Dauchez, President & Co-founder of Make.org.
Oliver Röpke, President of the EESC: “We want to hear what young people have to say and what they expressed in the EurHope consultation, that’s why we are proud to work with Make and JEF, it’s close to my heart and the EESC”.
Christelle Savall, President of JEF Europe: "People are often afraid of the future, with this EurHope initiative we succeeded to show that future and Europe can be linked to hope."
Axel Dauchez, President & Co-founder of Make.org: “Hope is a fighting force to really stand up for democracy. And that’s why with JEF we decided to launch the EurHope campaign."
Following these opening remarks, a debate based on the priorities of the Agenda of Hope #EurHope, was organised between the 150 young European citizens and 7 young candidates for the #EUelections2024. We were delighted to have Chloé Ridel representing the French Socialist Party, Lucie Rousselle from the Belgian Reformist Movement, Benedetta Scuderi representing the Italian Green Party, Benedek Farkas from the Hungarian Momentum Mozgalom, Rhia Lopes representing the Portuguese Volt Party, and Lefteris Vasilopoulos from the French Volt Party join us.
Later, young citizens formed small working groups each focusing on a dimension of the Agenda of Hope. Their goal: to formulate policy proposals in answer to one or several priorities of the Agenda. They were guided in this process by our partners from the EurHope coalition, who presented their work related to these issues. This led to engaging discussions in the afternoon. Following the debate, the afternoon session culminated in the presentation of awards to the working groups highlighting their exceptional contributions to the discussions and proposals.
During the event, the eurhope.org platform, the first EU-wide, multilingual tool to highlight the priorities of young people ahead of the EU Elections. For the first time, it is now possible to access the responses by European political parties and civil society to the 15 priorities of the Agenda of Hope in 22 languages. You can find more about it here.
We are proud to reconcile many aspects of participatory campaigning in this context:
