As part of the project of law on the end of life in France being examined by the Parliament, the Economic, Social and Environmental Council (ESEC), the french third chamber, is launching, in collaboration with Make.org, a unique platform to provide the general public and members of parliament with a window on the work of the Citizens’ Convention.

The Citizens' Convention on the End of Life in France, organised by the ESEC following a request from the government, brought together 184 French citizens over nine 3-day sessions to answer the question: "Is the framework for support at the end of life adapted to the different situations encountered, or should changes be introduced?" Their work, enriched by exchanges with experts, ended with proposals and a final report submitted to the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, on 3 April 2023.

Called "Panoramic", this platform created by Make.org for the ESEC, represents a significant innovation for democracy and citizen participation. Using artificial intelligence, "Panoramic" provides short, sourced summaries of the work of the Citizens' Convention that can be understood by everyone, offering easy access to the various official sources of the Convention (video extracts from the Convention, final report, etc.).  Citizens and members of parliament are thus able to immerse themselves in the debates that ran through the Citizens' Convention over several months of work.

Thierry Beaudet, ESEC’s President: "A citizens' convention is a lively, demanding exercise, made possible by a rigorous methodology. Building bridges between the convention and society as a whole is a major democratic challenge. With this in mind, the Panoramic platform opens up a wide range of possibilities.”
Thierry Beaudet, ESEC’s President.
Axel Dauchez, President and co-Founder of Make.org : "This is a world premiere, and we are particularly pleased to launch this major democratic innovation within the Assembly of organised civil society and citizen participation that is now the ESEC. Thanks to artificial intelligence, we will now be able to make the work of the Citizens' Convention on the End of Life fully accessible to the general public and to the members of parliament who will be working on the text. We are convinced that this revolution will change our relationship with institutions for years to come!”

The wider aim of this pilot project is also to demonstrate the possibility, through the use of AI, of bringing the work of an Assembly and the citizen members of a citizens' convention closer to the 'general public', so that the latter can take ownership of the deliberations and recommendations of a convention. The platform was presented at the final session of the Citizens' Convention on 27 April 2024 at the Palais d'Iéna.
