On 22 and 23 May 2025, Make.org participated in the first in-person meeting of the YouthDecide 2040 project consortium that was hosted by European University Institute in Florence, Italy.
We are delighted to be part of such an exciting, innovative, and future-oriented project that engages the young generation in shaping the European future. The first meeting was a great moment to set the project in the right direction and we are looking forward to the upcoming cooperation with our partners.
YouthDecide 2040, a Horizon Europe project, aims to support European Union democracy to rise to the challenges through evidence-based historical and contemporary knowledge, strategic foresight, and robust deliberation. The project will be implemented from January 2025 until December 2027.
The main objective of YouthDecide is to: co-create coherent pathways to desired futures of democracy in the European Union in 2040. The project’s ambition is to reinvigorate democracy in and across Europe with visions and pathways – made with active and inclusive citizen participation – for becoming more resilient to current and future challenges.
Make.org’s large-scale, inclusive and multilingual online platform will provide a collaborative and interactive space for participants to actively discuss and create preferred scenarios and visions for 2040, which will be coming from the previous in-person deliberations citizen panels. Moreover, the citizens will be consulted on how can democratic legitimacy be advanced through participatory democracy. This large-scale consultation will help to enrich the legitimacy of results and highlight their legitimacy by significantly increasing the involvement of European youth.
All activities are planned to be inclusive and open processes – transparently documented along the way – to enable repetition and implementation beyond the limits of the project. Its outcomes will thus be applicable to other projects that will connect youth perspectives with enhanced citizens’ engagement in order to co-create concrete future-proof propositions.
The Youth Decide 2040 project is implemented by the Austrian Institute of Technology in partnership with the European Democracy Youth Network (EDYN), Strategic Design Scenarios, WeDo Project Intelligence Made Easy SL, Missions Publiques, Fraunhofer Institute of Systems and Innovation research, Institute of Philosophy and Sociology, Polish Academy of Sciences, European Partnership for Democracy (EPD), European University Institute (EUI), European Youth Forum (EYF) and Make.org.
