Make.org’s Dialogue for the Young Citizens Assembly on Pollinators

At a time when environmental challenges are more urgent than ever, meaningful public engagement is key to developing solutions that work for people and the planet. Together with the European Commission, ifok, and Missions Publiques, Make.org is launching a Dialogue for the Young Citizens Assembly on Pollinators. This platform will enable citizens to give input and vote on the recommendations that resulted from the young citizens assembly in December 2025.

Why this assembly matters

Pollinating insects, such as bees, butterflies and beetles, are foundational to our ecosystems and food systems. Around four in five crops and wild flowering plants depend on pollinators to reproduce, making them essential to biodiversity, food security, and human wellbeing. Yet these vital insects are declining due to habitat loss, intensive agricultural practices, pesticides, pollution, invasive species and climate change.

The Young Citizens’ Assembly on Pollinators is a remarkable European Commission initiative designed to tackle these challenges through inclusive deliberation. It gathers 100 young Europeans aged 18-29, randomly selected from across the EU, to learn, discuss and craft policy recommendations on how to reverse pollinator decline. Their work spans several sessions, both in person and online, from September 2025 through March 2026.

Our Role: opening the debate to all citizens

While the Assembly itself is focused on the youth deliberation process, the issue of pollinators affects everyone and everyone’s voice deserves to be heard. That is where our Dialogue platform comes in.

Our platform offers an inclusive and interactive online space where citizens from across Europe (in six languages) can react, comment and rank proposed measures to protect pollinators.

By linking the broader public debate with the youth Assembly process, we aim to facilitate mutual enrichment between citizens at large and the young participants, strengthening the overall democratic impact of the initiative.

Looking Ahead

As the Young Citizens’ Assembly continues its series of deliberations, from early debates through final recommendations in March 2026, the contributions on our platform will help inform and broaden the insights emerging from the youth assembly. This collaboration between structured deliberative democracy and open dialogue is a promising model for participatory policymaking in Europe and beyond
