From 13 December 2022 to 7 February 2023, young Ukrainians, aged between 13 and 30, living in Ukraine or in the EU, were invited to answer the question "Young Ukrainians: How can you be helped to build your future?". Initiated by the Schüler Helfen Leben Foundation, and in partnership with the National Ukrainian Youth Association, this online consultation engaged 20,000 participants who made 678 proposals and more than 275,000 votes on the Make.org platform. This highlighted 18 ideas that are priorities for young Ukrainians.
84% of participants among Ukrainian young people see their future in their own country and a large majority is clearly in favour of Ukraine joining the EU.
Modernising the education system, improving the health system, especially in the area of mental health, and intensifying the fight against corruption are among the main ideas addressed by the young Ukrainians.
These perspectives, wishes and needs will be widely spread to guide the actions of institutions and organisations who want to support Ukraine now and in the future. For when dealing with the medium and long-term consequences of war, the young generation must not be lost sight of - they will take on the responsibility in a democratic and future-oriented post-war society.
These results will help actors in politics and civil society to translate these priorities into effective projects, policies, and initiatives that will help the Ukrainian people rebuild their country democratically in the long term.
